Silicone Rubber
One of the older keyboard technologies but still very flexible and one of the lowest cost and most reliable technologies available today. One simple tool defines the overall shape of the keycap and many different shapes can be incorporated in the one tool. Examples of the flexibility provided by this technology:
- Keystroke distance can vary from key to key.
- The tactile feedback can be in the skirt of the keycap or a metal dome can be used under the rubber.
- Every keycap can be a different color, and different height.
- Legends can be molded into the rubber or silk-screened onto the rubber.
